Hello you Backwords people,

I am Bernice, a 19 year old university student. The arts, for me, aren’t just an escape; they are where I live most of my life. If I am not reading or writing a story, I am watching a show or a film. I’ve accepted the permanent place of these things in my life. I’d rather commit myself to the arts, an uncertain field, than do something I am not as passionate about. I finish my degree in two years, and I am not sure where I will end up. However, I love writing and that’s good enough for now.

My love, obsession with books, television, art, music and films may seem backwards. Some may ask: what’s the point and value in reading a novel; what do you get out of watching a film or sitting through an entire season of a show; or what’s the worth of a painting? I have no answers for these people; I have only my personal prejudices. It may sound backwards, but hey, if enough people do what they love regardless of what others say than it isn’t backwards, it’s forwards. I intend to post every Monday and Thursday, as well as any other day I feel inspired to. I hope this blog will allow the unimpeded development of our addictions.;).

  2. Thanks for liking and commenting on our blog. The arts are certainly important to a lot of people. Thanks for being Backwords!

  3. Hello, Ms. Bernice Backwords (only for the alliteration πŸ˜€ , pardon me.)
    Thanks for the visit.
I like the South-Park-esque ” I’ll do what I want” attitude in your About. Godspeed to you.

  4. “I’d rather commit myself to the arts, an uncertain field, than do something I am not as passionate about.” – I love it and I feel exactly the same! It was Alan Watts who once said: “After all, if you do really like what you are doing – it doesn’t really matter what it is – you can eventually become a master of it.” Let’s see where it takes us, hey!
Thanks for visiting my blog as well πŸ™‚

    • Exactly! I don’t have any expectations for success, only a drive to better myself and the world around me. I know that if I could only do one thing for the rest of my life it would involve some form of art. I kind of like the idea of being a life long master/student of my craft.

Let us see where it takes us indeed. Blogging and reading the blogs of others has made me see that expectations are sometimes the greatest guarantee for disappointment.

Who knows where we’ll be one, five or ten years from now? I look forward to taking this journey with other creative individuals such as yourself. πŸ™‚

      • Way to go! It’s always funny when people assume we stop learning and growing once we hold a degree that is supposed to settle our lives from then on. Let’s hope the flow of creativity never stops – I certainly couldn’t live without the arts either.

And on a different note: Isn’t it also exciting that we don’t know where exactly we’ll end up one day? So many possibilities… πŸ™‚
