So you want to quit your job?

Copyright by Incidental Comics

I’ll admit, I’ve considered at some point I’ve wanted to be a teacher, doctor, astronomer, astronaut, athlete, chef, painter, director and costume designer , and I’m not even out of school yet! I’ve settled (at the moment) to pursue something in writing.

If you could quit your jog or finish school today, what would you do for the rest of your life (kudos to you if you’re already doing it)? Any of these professions sound appealing?

  1. The way I see it, there’s no someday. 🙂 I wish I could find it, but there are just a lot of books to go through. Goethe wrote that every smart person in his/her life goes through small apprenticeships in which he/she tries on possible vocations until, sort of like a sluice box that shakes out all the dirt and rocks and iron pyrite, time and experience lead us to the work that belongs to us. I like that idea a lot. I didn’t read it until I was well into my 40’s and could say, “Yeah, that’s what happened!”

    • Well, it makes sense. Being a student, sister, brother, mother, mother, father, worker, teacher, these are all apprenticeships. Some last longer than others, some overlap, some finish before we’re ready to let go and others take too long.
